Software Engineer Gets Religious Exemption from Using AI at Work: Report

A woman reportedly received a religious exemption so she wouldn’t have to use artificial intelligence at her technology-focused job.

Erin Maus, a Unitarian Universalist who works as a software engineer for what she described as a large, progressive tech-entertainment company, said she first suggested the exemption in April, according to Business Insider.

Maus, 34, allegedly claimed using AI raised ethical and environmental concerns that went against her religious beliefs.

The North Carolina woman said she spoke with an employment lawyer and a local minister to help her build her case. By mid-May, Maus was granted the accommodation, per Business Insider, citing an email addressing the exemption.
