A heartwarming story
Rare, touching, and magnificent all at once—words cannot do this story justice. It all began when an exhausted penguin, later named Dindim, washed up on a Brazilian beach, covered in oil and struggling for survival. Fisherman João Pereira de Souza rescued and cared for him for a week, until he regained his strength. Dindim then stayed with João for eleven months. Then, he suddenly left, but since then, he returns every year to visit his rescuer.
“If anyone else touches him, he snarls,” João told Brazilian television. “But with me, he lets me wash him, eats sardines from my hand, and sits quietly on my lap.” He added, “I consider this penguin my own child, and I think he’s very attached to me.”
