Rodrigo sat beside her.
Federico and Teresa remained nearby, pretending to admire the ocean.
“This one too?” Valeria asked.
Rodrigo pointed toward the bottom of the page.
“Right there.”
She deliberately hesitated.
“What exactly does this authorize?”
For a fraction of a second, Rodrigo’s smile disappeared.
Then it returned.
“Just access to one of our joint investment accounts.”
Valeria looked at Federico.
“And this document?”
Federico answered before Rodrigo could.
“It gives Rodrigo permission to manage certain assets while you’re traveling. Completely normal.”
Valeria nodded slowly.
The hidden phone beside her was recording everything.
She needed more.
“Does Dad know about this?”
The three of them exchanged a quick glance.
Rodrigo laughed.
“You’re married now, Valeria. Your father doesn’t need to approve every financial decision you make.”
Teresa added,
“You have to stop letting Ernesto control your life.”
There it was.
They had been slowly trying to isolate her from her father for months.
Valeria looked back at the documents.
“And once I sign these, Rodrigo can move money?”
Federico answered impatiently.
“That’s the entire point.”
Rodrigo shot him a warning look.
But it was too late.
Valeria kept her expression neutral.
“How much?”
Federico smiled.
“As much as the authorization allows.”
“And how much is that?”
Rodrigo leaned closer.
“Why are you suddenly asking so many questions?”
Valeria shrugged.
“I’m signing something. I should understand it.”
Teresa laughed nervously.
“Sweetheart, we’re family.”
Valeria looked directly at her.
“That’s exactly why I’m asking.”
Silence.
Rodrigo reached for the folder.
“Maybe we should do this later.”
Before he could take it, a notification appeared on Valeria’s hidden phone.
Rodrigo saw the glow beneath the edge of her robe.
His eyes narrowed.
“What’s that?”
Valeria reached for the phone.
Too late.
Rodrigo picked it up.
The recording timer was visible on the screen.
His face changed completely.
“You’ve been recording us?”
Federico stood up.
Teresa went pale.
Valeria calmly took the phone back.
“Yes.”
Rodrigo stared at her.
“How long?”
“Long enough.”
Federico immediately began gathering the documents.
“We’re leaving.”
But before anyone could move, several voices came from the other side of the deck.
“Actually, I don’t think you are.”
Everyone turned.
A second boat had pulled alongside the yacht.
Several people were stepping aboard.
One of them was Diego Salvatierra.
And standing behind him was Ernesto Alcázar.
Valeria’s father.
Rodrigo’s face lost all color.
“You called your father?”
Valeria shook her head.
“No.”
She looked at Diego.
“I called the man who knows exactly what those documents mean.”
Diego walked toward the table and picked up the leather folder.
He examined the first page.
Then the second.
Finally, he looked at Federico.
“This is interesting.”
Federico stiffened.
“What?”
Diego held up one of the documents.
“This authorization contains a forged signature.”
Rodrigo immediately turned toward his father.
“You told me everything was legal.”
Federico’s face tightened.
“I told you it would work.”
Teresa stepped backward.
“Federico…”
But Diego wasn’t finished.
“There’s more.”
He opened another folder he had brought with him.
“We reviewed several transfers connected to accounts Rodrigo opened during the engagement.”
Rodrigo stared at him.
“How did you get those?”
Diego smiled slightly.
“You should never assume a wealthy family doesn’t audit unusual financial activity.”
Then he looked at Federico.
“And we found the Panama and Switzerland accounts.”
Teresa slowly turned toward her husband.
“What accounts?”
Federico said nothing.
Rodrigo’s expression changed.
“What is he talking about?”
Valeria watched the three people who had presented themselves as a perfect family begin turning on one another.
And she suddenly realized that their betrayal went much deeper than even she had imagined.
“Federico,” Rodrigo said slowly, “what accounts?”
His father remained silent.
That silence said enough.
Diego placed several documents on the table.
“These accounts were opened months ago.”
Rodrigo picked up one of the pages.
His expression hardened.
The accounts weren’t in his name.
They belonged to companies controlled by Federico.
Rodrigo looked up.
“You were planning to take the money yourself?”
Federico finally lost patience.
“I arranged the lawyers. I created the structure. I handled the contacts. Did you really think I was doing all of that so you could walk away with everything?”
Rodrigo stared at him.
“You said fifty-fifty.”
“I said what I needed to say.”
Even Teresa looked stunned.
“You never told me about separate accounts.”
Federico turned toward her.
“You didn’t need to know.”
The family that had spent months secretly plotting against Valeria was now collapsing under the weight of its own greed.
Rodrigo threw the documents onto the table.
“You used me.”
Federico laughed.
“You married her for money and now you’re offended that someone used you?”
Valeria said nothing.
She simply watched.
For months, she had desperately wanted these people to love her.
Now she realized they didn’t even trust one another.
Diego turned toward Valeria.
