Wildlife encounters can be both exciting and terrifying, especially when they happen unexpectedly.
In many parts of the southern United States, alligators are commonly found in rivers, lakes, and wetlands. Most of the time they keep their distance from people, but sometimes curiosity can bring them surprisingly close.
In this moment captured on camera, a group of people were enjoying a calm day on the water when an alligator suddenly approached their boat.
Instead of swimming away, the alligator lifted itself up and placed its front legs on the side of the boat, appearing almost as if it was trying to climb aboard.
For a few seconds, everyone on the boat froze, unsure of what the animal would do next. Alligators are powerful predators, but they are also naturally curious creatures.
