This symptom may be less talked about, but it can happen when brain signals to the muscles are disrupted. Sudden swallowing difficulty should be evaluated quickly, especially when combined with speech changes, facial drooping, or weakness.
10. A Mini-Stroke That Disappears Quickly
One of the most overlooked warnings is a symptom that appears and then disappears. A person may have weakness for 10 minutes, blurred vision for a short time, or speech trouble that clears before they reach a doctor.
This may be a TIA. Mayo Clinic warns that a TIA can be a warning sign of a future stroke.
Do not ignore symptoms just because they go away. Temporary stroke-like symptoms still need urgent medical attention.
Why Fast Action Matters
Stroke treatment is time-sensitive. The sooner someone gets medical care, the better the chance of reducing brain damage and improving recovery.
The American Stroke Association says to watch for sudden numbness or weakness, confusion, trouble speaking, severe headache, trouble seeing, dizziness, loss of balance, or trouble walking.
