This unusual creature is known as a hammerhead worm, a type of land flatworm. It gets its name from its distinctive head, which resembles the shape of a hammer or shovel. Its body is long, flat, and often slimy, usually brown or gray with darker stripes.
These worms can grow surprisingly long, sometimes reaching up to 30 cm or more.
Why Is It Showing Up in Your Yard?
Hammerhead worms are originally from warmer regions but have spread to many parts of the world. They are often carried in the soil of potted plants, which allows them to appear suddenly in new places.
