A simple walk in my garden turns into a disturbing moment when my dog ​​suddenly stops in front of a strange object, as mysterious as it is unexpected.

Sometimes, a simple stroll in my garden is all it takes to experience a little adventure worthy of a mystery film. My dog ​​stops abruptly, sniffing intently, as if he’s found treasure… or something unsettling. Intrigued, I approach, my heart racing slightly. Before me, a dark, strange, almost unreal object. Where did it come from? Was it really here just a few hours ago? And most importantly… should I be wary of it?

This is the kind of situation that quickly sets my imagination running wild. An unfamiliar object, almost metallic in appearance, lying on the lawn, is anything but reassuring at first glance. I think of debris, something that fell from the sky, or even an abandoned man-made object.

My first instinct is simple: observe from a distance, then test with a stick to avoid any risk. What surprises me even more is its texture: light, almost hollow, sometimes sticking to the grass… A real mystery!

In those moments, it’s hard not to imagine the most improbable scenarios. Yet, reality is often much simpler — and above all, much more natural.

This natural phenomenon that imitates metal

Behind this intriguing appearance, I discover that it is actually a fascinating organism called a myxomycete, also known as “slime mold.” Put like that, it might sound unappealing, but I quickly reassure myself: it’s a perfectly common natural phenomenon.

These organisms typically appear under very specific conditions, particularly after periods of humidity. They can emerge in just a few hours, which explains why I have the impression that they appear overnight.

Their unique characteristic? Their changing appearance. When they develop, they can be colorful and soft, then as they dry, they become dark, sometimes shiny, with an almost metallic effect. Enough to easily fool the eye and create a  strange discovery in the garden .
