Trump’s offhand joke about running Venezuela after a U.S.-backed operation toppled Nicolás Maduro landed like a test balloon: half bluster, half trial run for a new kind of power fantasy. He boasted that Venezuelans adore him, that his poll numbers there are historic, that he could just pick up a new country the way others pick up a new job.
