Peel and dice the apples. Grease the baking dish and arrange the apples in it (sprinkle with sugar or cinnamon, if desired). Pour the batter over the apples and smooth the surface.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30-45 minutes (baking time may vary; check with a toothpick before removing the cake from the oven). Dust the finished cake with powdered sugar.
