This sleep mistake you might be making every night (and which affects your heart and brain)

We all know that a good night’s sleep is precious. We keep track of the hours we sleep, we avoid screens, we try to go to bed at a set time. But there’s a very common, completely silent mistake that many of us make without even realizing it. And its effects on the heart and brain are far from negligible. The good news: a few simple adjustments can make all the difference.

What really happens in your body while you sleep

Sleep is much more than a break. It’s the time when your brain sorts through and eliminates the waste accumulated during the day, and consolidates your memories. During this time, your heart rate slows, your blood pressure stabilizes, and your entire body regenerates deeply.

The problem? When sleep is disrupted—even slightly—all these vital processes become less efficient. And the disruption in question is often related not to the duration of sleep, but to how we sleep .

The real mistake: poor posture that compresses the airways.

What many people don’t realize is that the position in which they fall asleep can impede breathing without them even noticing. Sleeping on your back without proper support, using a pillow that’s too thick or too flat, or having your neck misaligned… all these small details can reduce airflow and force the body to work harder during the night.

As a result, oxygen levels fluctuate, the heart compensates, and the brain, deprived of a stable supply of oxygen, does not recover as it should.
